how to make knots more square for alphas?

i've been trying my hand at alpha patterns and my bracelets have been consistently stretched out. my knots are not very square. they're pretty rectangular. my tension is pretty tight, so maybe that's the problem? how do i make my knots more square?

You can- use thicker base strings or double your base strings - tie looser - push up each row with a ruler or something similar after you tied it |

I second everything @halokiwi said- thicker base strings are an easy way to help this issue or tying looser will help you manipulate your knots more with a ruler etc.

Yeah, i've been doing alphas for a while and definitely have this problem. Thicker base strings is a good idea.
