How do I start an alpha on a keychain using a lark knot start with an uneven # of strings?

You could do all larks knots and on the last one do a basic knot with only one string of the same length

or just tie it like the others make a small tail and tie like normal until the tail is gone

You can use the other end of your first leading string as your last base string. Just tie your leading string to the keyring and leave one end the same length as the base strings.
