Hello, I'm new to alphas and keep noticing my knots keep going in zig-zag patterns each row. Any way to fix this?

I would recommend trying the straight edges technique! There’s a lot of tutorials on YouTube that explain how to do it. Hope this helps

Thank you for the response, but I am already using the straight edge technique! It's not the whole bracelet that is changing shape, just the knots in the centre of the bracelet. You can see a picture in my profile for reference. The rows in my keychains kind of look like a braid instead of having straight knots.

I recommend experimenting a little bit with the angles at which you hold the strings while knotting.

From what I saw, I think that’s because of inconsistent tension! So just make sure your pulling the knots at the same strength for the whole alpha or make your knots a little looser when starting and keep that same strength the whole time 🙂

I agree, I think you’re issue is varying knotting tension, but your second alpha looks really good and also has no warping :]

Thank you for all the help everyone! I'll try loosening knots, since I've realised just how tight I'm making the knots. I'll try out all your tips on my next pattern 😄

They’re actually meant to go in a zig zag way . Each row will go horizontally

The strait edge technique should help. This technique is when on the edge knots, you do a forwards backwards knot or backwards forward knot. The to determine which knot you should use is by looking at the end of the name of the knot. Ex. the pattern says backwards knot, so I do a fb knot because the second word in it is backwards.

Your knots are supposed to go zig zag but it shouldn’t be too noticeable and distracting. It should get better over time.
