Help! My base string snapped!

I'm working on an alpha keychain and suddenly my base string snapped before I could knot onto it! Is there any way to fix this or prevent it in the future? My base strings are red but my pattern does not use red any more from the point I'm knotting. Any help is appreciated! ❤️

you can just tape another base string to to the back and then keep knotting w it just like replacing a string in a normal. if it snapped it’s either cuz the string is rly crappy but usually it’s just u pulling too hard. try not to do that.
