how to cut wooden dowels

as the title saysi want to make an alpha pattern but it doesn’t fit on a keychain so i’m wondering how you cut those wooden dowels for the patterns ? i’ve seen some look so smooth and i have no idea how |

I usually cut my dowels with scissors a little (i mean just a little) longer than cutting it how i want the dowel to be and then i use a nail filer and file down the sides to be smoother, and if you cut the dowel a little longer you should see that the dowel is the length that you want. just be careful. Happy knotting!

What i do is cut the dowel with scissors (it does take a little while) and then sand it down with some sandpaper. I then attach the strings to the dowel using larks heads knots and start knotting. Hope this helps! ❤️
