I am not familiar with the app so somebody else may have to weigh in but on the website when you click on a pattern and look at the upper right corner there are three orange links and one of them is for uploading photos 😉

If you’re on the app, tap the pattern you want to add a photo of, tap the plus sign in the upper right corner, tap, “add a photo of this pattern”, then tap the photo you’d like to add.

If you want to post a photo in the forums ("The yarn I ordered the other day finally arrived. Isn't it beautiful?! 😄"), you can upload said photo to your Google Drive or a picture sharing service like Imgur and then post the link.
