How do you do a loop and then make it into a candystripe?

I assume you mean a finished loop? Use one of your folded strings to do forwards backwards knots over the whole group of string as if you were doing a Chinese staircase bracelet. Once at length fold that section, arrange strings as preferred and knot bracelet as usual.
