So i wanted to add a variation, and clicked the button for it, and changed the colors just hitting submit should be fine right? It wont be confused for a new pattern? Sorry if im just missing something...

Yea so just change the colors from the original and it’ll submit. Since you pressed add a variation it’ll let the mods know that it’s a variation for a certain pattern 👍

The generator will recognise any pattern as a variation that has the same knotting structure as an already existing pattern. You can't only achieve this by clicking "add variation" but it can also happen when you generate a new pattern and someone had that idea before you. It's more about the generator recognising that the knotting structure is the same than pressing the "add variation" button.
