I've made the loop with the extra strings which I'll be using for my straight edges technique. How do I move one of the strings to the other side?

If you already made the loop I recommend to make a triangle end afterwards because this way you can bring all strings into a point and it's not noticeable when you switch the side a string is at. A teardrop loop would not be possible in that case.

If you haven't made the loop yet if you only need a certain colour on one side but not the other there's a technique where you fold the strings of one side in half and pull the strings that are only on the other side through that fold so the strings secure each other in place. If you only need one string of a certain colour (or any other uneven number) you can split a string of double the length in half, fold that halfed string in half and do the same thing I just described.

Which pattern are you doing? In general you can pick any colour you want for the strings at the edge. Maybe you'll find a way to make a loop that works. There should be a way.
