In general you can just take more strings that you knot around to make it thicker. More strings also give the option to make flowers in different colours. But for that you wouldn't really need an extra pattern.
@cthulhuwiz you hide the unused white strings in the green knots. So instead of just making the green knots around the yellow strings, you make them around the white and yellow strings at once.
